Well it's only March and the season doesn't open until the middle of June but that doesn't stop the dreaming. In Northwestern Ontario, it is easy to dream about muskie fishing since we have so many lakes with great populations of this might fish (natural populations - not stocked).
For me, fishing for muskie is a passion as I am sure it is for most people who read this message board. I am hoping to break into a new realm (size-wise) this season - I have yet to catch a fish over 45 inches so that is my goal for this summer. I usually fish the trout/muskie lakes up here - with gin clear water it makes it a little harder to land a fish. Always get a number of follow-ups but it seems to be hard to get these fish to strike - as least when I am bait casting for them. Trolling has been more successful - for me anyway.
I hope all who read this are as excited as I am about the 2008 season. A couple of photos for you - the large fish you see is being held by Gord Pyzer - he caught this monster in 2002 on Lake of the Woods - a real nice, fat fish so I thought I would post it to make everyone envious. The other image is one of a nice but considerably smaller fish my friend Marc caught last fall in Dryberry Lake.
