Late October LOTW Kenora Area

I'm planning a trip to LOTW the last two weeks of October, and will be fishing out of Keewatin/Kenora.  Unless the weather is very warm, I expect to mostly troll.  Any suggestions for general locations within 20 miles of town? I fished the Brule Point area last September and caught a couple of smaller fish.  Do I need to be more in the main lake area this October?

Any suggestions for a local guide for a day at the start of the trip?

Hi Rick:

I agree trolling is your best bet this time of year and you may want to read the latest issue of Esox Angler which has some cool tips related to jigging for muskie - never done that myself but apparently it is a good technique for fish in the fall. I suggest you look at fishing in the Piepstone Point area SE of Kenora - seen some big lunge follow up in that area. You may also want to see if you find a school of bait fish there are any muskie lurking around the school. I caught my 37 inch fish shown on another post on this forum by down rigging at 50 feet in the middle of a school of trout - this was not on Lake of the Woods though. I caught it on a big bucktail - I'm sure it was down there gobbling up the smaller trout.

Dress warm but it should be a very good time to catch muskie.
